I have been busy, very, very busy and it has had its effects on this personal blog site. I wanted to do a lot of “spring cleaning”, finishing up what I feel as the last threads on 11gR,1 like “XMLDB Repository Events” and “XMLDB Security”, but I just don’t have the time…
Will do anyway
Besides an Oracle XML DB performance tuning job for more than a month for a big customer (really cool – increased performance 200x on XML parts of the system, and that for a 9.2.0.5.0 database) and some extra short term performance and consolidation jobs, Hotsos, I also had the opportunity to create a 2 day Oracle XML database training course. I really enjoyed too give this training course on-site for this customer. In the end, I hope I helped, approx. 30 people on their way regarding finding solutions for building systems with the Oracle XML DB functionality.
AMIS Technology School
This new XML DB course, packed with practical advice and my personal views and experience on the topic, has been joined and packaged with the other course AMIS can give in house or if wanted on-site. Although the courses are based on the Dutch market, AFAIK, all (as could be expected from my colleagues) can be given in English (all my examples, presentations and questions are in English, so…) and if wanted can also be given “abroad”.
Overview Courses
The AMIS Technology School has at current state the following regular training courses, workshops and masterclasses. As said, if needed we are able to create trainingcourses that fit your specified needs…
- SQL en PL/SQL Fundamentals
- Oracle 7Up
- Oracle ADF (10g)
- Oracle JHeadstart – 10g
- Oracle ADF (11g) Applicatieontwikkeling
- XML Fundamentals
- XML in de Oracle Database
- ADF Masterclass – Best Practices & Reusables
- ADF 11g Upgrade
- SOA Suite voor database professionals
- Advanced Oracle Database Application Development & Architecture
- Oracle SQL Inside Out

My Oracle XMLDB Events…?
Was that all? Nope!. I also had the opportunity to give an presentation for the local Oracle User Group called OGh. This Dutch User group started up a cool set of presentations for their members under the name “ACE Cases”. During the next months and probably also next year, they will ask the Oracle Dutch ACE’s and ACE Directors to talk about their Oracle specialty, in my case Oracle XMLDB. I had the honor to do the first Oracle ACE Case a week ago and (hopeful) kick-start this series of “Oracle ACE Cases”.
On the OGh Agenda the following events are already planned:
- ACE Case: XML DB (16/04/2009)
- ACE Case: Middleware, Mike van Alst (16/09/2009)
- DatabACE Case (17/11/2009)
- ACE Case: Tools (09/12/2009)
I really enjoyed doing it and the people that attended where also, AFAIK, very enthousiastic about the presentation.
In the meanwhile I am talking with Oracle EMEA regarding a “Oracle XML DB Masterclass” – a spin off after the UKOUG presentation end December 2008 and of course I submitted two abstracts for Oracle Open World this year.
More on these items later…keep you posted.

>increased performance 200x on XML parts of the system
Could you point out some major changes you had to make to improve performance so much?
What was done so wrongly in the first place?
